“Australia’s national industry body for vertical transport has entered an important new chapter, with the formal transition from the Australian Elevator Association (AEA) to the Australian Association of Vertical Transport (AAVT). The rebrand reflects the evolution of the industry and the expanding role of the Association in representing a broader and more complex sector,” said Mark Liversedge, Chief Executive Officer of the AAVT.
Established in 1961 as the Lift Manufacturers’ Association of Australia (LMAA), the Association became the AEA in 1981 and went on to provide more than four decades of leadership, technical guidance, and industry representation. Over this time, the vertical transport industry grew significantly in scope, shaped by modern technologies, regulatory developments and increasing expectations for safety, efficiency, and compliance within Australia’s built environment.
“The industry now includes design, installation, service, modernisation, engineering, product quality, consultancy, regulatory engagement, and training—disciplines that play a critical role in the construction, infrastructure, and maintenance environments. The expanded name, Australian Association of Vertical Transport, acknowledges this broader reality and positions the Association to represent all parts of the sector with clarity and strength”, Mr Liversedge said.
“The AAVT will continue its longstanding commitment to providing advocacy, technical support, industry guidance and collaboration across the sector. The transition strengthens the Association’s ability to engage on matters of regulation, standards, safety, and industry development, while promoting excellence and unity across the vertical transport community.”
“With a renewed name and a broader mandate, the AAVT looks forward to representing the industry’s future with the same professionalism and commitment that have defined its past”, Mr Liversedge said.
