The Australian Association of Vertical Transport (AAVT) was represented at the recent Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF) member meeting held at Parliament House, Canberra, on Monday 24 November 2025.
As a member of ACIF, AAVT Chief Executive Officer Mark Liversedge attended the full-day forum, which brought together national construction industry bodies and senior government representatives to discuss key policy, regulatory, and industry issues impacting Australia’s built environment.
The meeting provided valuable opportunities for direct engagement with parliamentarians and policy leaders, with discussions covering a range of critical issues including the accessibility and affordability of Australian Standards, developments within the National Construction Code, Security of Payment legislation, and the promotion of fairer and more sustainable industry practices.
Over the course of the day, ACIF members met with the following parliamentarians:
- Hon Catherine King MP – Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development
- Hon Clare O’Neil MP – Minister for Housing, Homelessness and Cities
- Hon Anne Aly MP – Minister for Small Business
- Hon Andrew Leigh MP – Assistant Minister for Productivity, Competition, Charities and Treasury
- Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie – Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development
- Hon Alex Hawke MP – Shadow Minister for Industry and Innovation
- Senator Matt O’Sullivan – Assistant Shadow Minister for Infrastructure
- Hon Ed Husic MP – Member for Chifley and former Minister for Industry
Mr Liversedge said “AAVT’s participation ensured the vertical transport industry’s perspective was represented in national conversations shaping construction, infrastructure, and regulatory reform.”
“Engagement through ACIF provides AAVT with a direct and effective channel to contribute to policy discussions that influence safety, compliance, productivity, and long-term outcomes across the construction sector, including vertical transport,” Mr Liversedge said.
The day concluded with ACIF’s 25th Anniversary Cocktail Event, marking 25 years of advocacy and collaboration across Australia’s construction industry.
AAVT remains committed to working alongside government, industry partners, and peak bodies to advance a safe, sustainable, and well-regulated vertical transport industry.
