Industry Collaboration

The Australian Association of Vertical Transport (AAVT) is committed to strengthening collaboration across Australia’s building and construction industry to deliver safer, more efficient, and compliant vertical transport solutions.

Successful building projects rely on cooperation between every trade and discipline. The integration of vertical transport systems (residential and commercial lifts/elevators, escalators, and moving walkways) into modern structures is a complex task requiring precise coordination between architects, engineers, builders, and vertical transport specialists. When these parties work together effectively, projects are completed on time, within budget, and in full compliance with national codes and standards.

Why is Collaboration Important

Collaboration within the construction industry is an essential element to achieving both industry and project success and is fully supported by the AAVT.

While efforts are being made across the industry to improve collaboration activities, the industry has traditionally operated on a “silo” mentality. This approach has led to statutory and regulatory outcomes that do not serve the industry or public well. It has also led to poor project development and completion outcomes that have resulted in projects being completed over time and over budget.

A lack of collaboration and coordination has resulted in the industry having ongoing problems with insolvencies, labour shortages, skills deficiencies and increasing costs of materials.

AAVT Collaboration

In undertaking our collaboration activities we engage with policy makers, regulators, industry associations, contractors, supply chain entities as well as other industry connected stakeholders. Our aim is to build and nurture relationships between and amongst all industry and public participants connected with the vertical transport industry.

Our collaboration action may take many different forms. It may arise as part of cooperation between industry associations to achieve statutory and regulatory improvements or through the support that we provide to vertical transport contractors working together and with clients to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
